Homemade Play Dough

play dough

I'm sure many of you have made your own play dough before.  If you haven't, try it!  It's easy, fast, inexpensive and you probably have most of the ingredients already in your kitchen.  I can remember my mother making big batches of dough for my brother and I, and playing with it while it was still warm out on our back covered porch on a rainy spring day.

Orange Lavender Cupcakes & Cake Balls

lavender cupcakes

I am so excited spring is here!  Immediately you start to see a shift in food trends towards things that inspire thoughts of freshness and the spring blooms to come.  I was inspired to use lavender.  Have you ever tried using it?  Don't think it's only for baking as it's fragrant aroma and slightly spicy (not in the 'hot' way) taste lends it self to savoury dishes quite well.  But for today, we are doing sweets because that what I love to do.

Come with me and we'll make Orange Lavender Cupcakes!  And to be a little more adventurous, we'll turn some of them into Cake Pops!

Woven Burlap Basket & Fabric Flower Tutorials

burlap basket

Hello Everyone!  I hope this past weekend was enjoyed by all.  I got to spend some time with family, friends and finish a project or two.  So overall, I'd say it was a great weekend!

Today I am going to share a double tutorial.  Part 1 will be a burlap woven basket and Part 2 will be the twisted fabric flowers that embellish it.  Together, they make the sweet little project pictured above.

Earl Grey Tea Cookies With Sweet Lemon Frosting

earl grey cookies

I love tea.  I love Earl Grey tea the most.  Maybe it's the bergamot... maybe just the warmth.  But all tea drinkers can agree, there is nothing more soothing and comforting then a good cup of tea.

Taking it a step further, I made these delicious Earl Grey Tea Cookies with Sweet Lemon Frosting.  Even my husband who dislikes tea like nobody I've ever seen... loved them.  I'm still working on changing his mind on the tea drinking lol.

White Chocolate Butterfinger Cups

butterfinger

You may have seen my recent recipe for homemade peanut butter cups.  They were eaten up so fast in this house... that I had to make more!  But I wanted to try something a little different so I went with white chocolate on the outside and Butterfinger filling on the inside.  Yum!

SaltTree's 1st Blogiversary & Giveaway!

It's SaltTree's very first blogiversary!  And to celebrate, we have a sweet little giveaway!  But we'll get to that in a minute... just a few words first.

This first year has been amazing.  Over 665,000 page views, a diverse and ever growing readership and stronger following by the day.  Starting SaltTree has brought new blogger friends, lots of positive feedback, so much incredible inspiration and has (thankfully) revived my creativity.  There are so many creative individuals out there and I applaud anyone who is willing to share and expose that creative part of themselves.  For some it is easy.  For others... it feels like a risk.  Thanks to everyone who has made me feel like the risk was worth it.  And a special thanks to my little boy as I probably would not have started this thing if I wasn't home with him on maternity leave.

Easter Egg Sidewalk Chalk

I had been thinking of what else my husband and I could 'hide' for our little guy besides just chocolate eggs for Easter this year.  Since he has been on a bit of a colouring kick lately (and christened a wall with crayon already), how about some festive egg shaped sidewalk chalk!  Follow along if you'd like to see how I did it!

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

peanut butter

The masses don't lie... chocolate and peanut butter is simply an amaaaazing combination isn't it??  I am not a big fan of buying chocolate bars or the likes, but if I do, it usually involves a little chocolatey cup of peanut buttery goodness.

Lets make some!
