Fireplace Surround, Before & After
Since we moved into this house over 5 years ago, I've been on a mission to eliminate all the builder basic brass fixtures and hardware throughout the house. I'm not talking about a nice aged looking brass with character, I mean the shiny in your face ones.
So far, we have replaced all 17 door knobs throughout the house, spray painted 4 ceiling light fixtures (those typical dome ones), replaced the thingies that keep the door from slamming into the walls... I have no idea what they are called lol. All that is left is the front door handle and the fireplace surround.
I have been planning on spray painting it for a really long time. Some of you may like the brass, but with our decor, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
My son decided it was time to just get it over with... he somehow pulled off part of the surround! Well... we took off the other two pieces quite easily and off to the hardware store it was.
I picked up some Tremclad high heat black spray paint in gloss. Three even coats and they were nicely covered. The container said primer was not recommended... so none was used.
Popped it back in place... and now the brass just blends in with the tile of the surround. Yay!
Here is a little before and after for you. I'm really happy with the way it looks now!
One last bit of brass to go...... front door... I'm comin' for YOU next!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI never leave comments but I just wanted you to know how much I look forward to receiving your emails. I wish I had you energy! You do the coolest things, just little things can make huge differences in a home. I especially liked the painted chair. What a great idea! I have an old rocker I love that was my grandmas but it is covered in an ugly pattern upholstery. I have not got the nerve up yet to tackle it, but I hope to. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep the emails coming,I love them!
Thanks so much for your kind words! It's comments like yours that give me the energy to keep doing projects :) I think you should tackle the chair... just go for it! If you get stuck, just hit up google or youtube... or even email a friendly blogger *ahem*. lol. Good luck!
