Paper Shade Lamp, Remade.

I'm sure many of you have lamps with paper shades.  You know the ones... you can't pass by an Ikea show room without seeing one.  Years ago, my husband and I got a set of three for an amazing price.  One tall, tube like floor lamp and two side table lamps.

Here's the thing.  My 19 month old son is a lamp destroyer!  Three lamps... have been destroyed so far.  I wish I had a before picture... but I don't.

If I did, it would look something like this.  Torn, beaten, holy, drawn on and of course, stains from whatever was on those sticky little hands!

I decided to recover it with an old curtain I had.  I wanted to keep it white so that it would blend in with the room I was moving it too.  No way was it staying in the same spot!  My newly created shade would be covered in 'something' in no time!

I removed the support rings at the top and bottom of the shade.  I then took the shade and used it as a template to measure out the new one.

Once I got it pinned, I sewed up the 'tube' and pinned the end rings back in place.  I neatly hot glued the fabric around the support rings and trimmed off any ragged edges.

All done!  The images here aren't the best... those sticky little hands were following me around while I was trying to take the pictures lol.

I have plans for the two smaller lamps.  Some awesome colourful patterned fabric.  I can hardly wait!  Bring on the colour!

  1. Okay so I was surfing the Internet when I found one of these lamps in Ikea for $9.99 but they don't ship and they are too far for me to travel to. Then I found them on eBay for $29.99 but I refuse to pay that price when I can get them for $20 cheaper (theoretically) so I then searched the Internet for directions to make them and bam came upon your page. LOL. Can you send me a photo of the bones of the lamp? I am sure i can go to the goodwill and find a lamp that I can turn it into one of these bad boys with a longer stem but I want to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking. I probably will spend more than $30 doing it but well that's my life story LOLOLOL. Thank you... You can send the directions to acitygirlscountrydream@gmail.com
